LETTER FROM THE CEO

Dear Ignite Community,

As the outbreak of COVID-19 continues to spread across the nation and the world, the health and safety of our Changemaker network, staff members at HQ, partners and community remain our top priority. We have been closely following the public health guidelines given by the World Health Organization and the U.S. Center for Disease Control, and have taken the necessary precautions of working from home. We hope that you and your institutions are also taking similar precautions to keep you safe and healthy.

COVID-19 has affected the places where we live, work and study but not our determination to keep advancing policies and legislation to give all students across the United States access to Mental Health Professionals as well as Mental Health Literacy Training. We have seen an urgent need for universities to adapt to the rapidly evolving situation by providing adequate resources for their students (to help alleviate the stress and anxiety of students). We hope that you will work with us on this initiative (seen below) to ensure that all students across the nation are getting the support they need.

Together we can ensure that students are provided with as many resources for their mental health as they are for their physical well being.

Wishing you health and safety in this difficult time,

Sean Burke

OUR MISSION

We are determined to keep advancing policies and legislation to give all students, across the nation, access to Mental Health Professionals as well as Mental Health Literacy Training. As COVID-19 has rapidly spread over the past couple of weeks, and students have had to quickly move off of their campuses, we have noticed an increase in stress and anxiety levels of students.

In order to serve their students, we want to ensure that universities are being as proactive in taking extreme measures to ensure the mental health of their student as they are in ensuring the physical health and safety of their students. At this time, the need for access to adequate mental health resources cannot be overlooked. As campuses close down, we are here to ensure that the mental health of students is being prioritized through the provision of adequate resources.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO RAISE AWARENESS & CREATE CHANGE?

Add a post from your administration’s page to your story and ask:

“@administration what are you doing for your students’ mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic? @IgniteMH”

Alternatively, comment on your administration’s post and send us a screenshot to upload to our story.

Make sure to tag us in your post so together we can ensure that the message is spread across the nation!

This is your chance to put mental health on your administration’s radar. Ensure that they are proactive about finding solutions to the lack of community support, increased loneliness and anxiety their students will/may/might face during this time.

Tweet:

“@administration what are you doing to avoid a mental health crisis among your students during the COVID-19 pandemic? #IgniteMH”

Make sure to #IgniteMH on your tweet, so together we can ensure that the message is spread across the nation!
